Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (Required annually)
What you need to do:
Provide two types of training to all staff each year:
Standard sexual harassment prevention training (same as other employers)
Supplemental training designed specifically for restaurant and bar environments
The supplemental training addresses situations unique to hospitality settings, like customer harassment, alcohol-related incidents, and power dynamics in tipped positions.
Workplace postings (Required)

Post these notices where both employees and customers can see them – like break rooms, near time clocks, employee entrances, and restrooms:
Written policy (Required)
What you need to do
Maintain a written sexual harassment policy specific to restaurant and bar environments. Your policy must address customer harassment and other industry-specific situations.
Note: This model policy is a starting point. Consult with a licensed attorney to ensure it fits your specific establishment.
Bars and Restaurants: Compliance Checklist
- All personnel in my organization have completed our sexual harassment training for this year
- Our organization has developed the prerequisite minimum training standards for bars and restaurants in regards to discrimination and sexual harassment
- Our organization has developed the prerequisite policies for bars and restaurants for sexual harassment
- Our organization has acquired the appropriate sexual harassment postings for our location
- Our organization has posted the appropriate sexual harassment postings for our location, which are in plain site for employees
- If an event in which discrimination has happened, I am prepared to report it and have the necessary information to do so
