Director's Office
Welcome to the website of the Illinois Department of Human Rights (IDHR). We are charged with enforcing the Illinois Human Rights Act, one of the best and most comprehensive civil rights laws in the nation.
If you feel you have been discriminated against or if you are responding to a charge of discrimination, you will find our office to be knowledgeable, timely and informative. We are working hard to ensure that those who look to our agency for assistance are treated with dignity and respect.
We are also responsible for the registration and issuance of the IDHR Employer Eligibility Number to entities that wish to do business with any agency, board, or commission of the State of Illinois.
To receive an IDHR eligible bidder number or to renew an IDHR number that is currently registered, visit our Public Contracts Unit site pages here to find helpful instructions or learn more.
This website includes forms, instructions and links to numerous other related websites as well as detailed information on how the discrimination charge process works. In addition, you may contact one of our offices throughout Illinois:
Chicago: (312)-814-6200
Springfield: (217)-785-5100
Marion: (618)-993-7463
TTY: (866)-740-3953
Whether relating your experience with an investigation or the ease of using this website, we want your input. You may email us directly or complete our online 'Contact IDHR' form to have your inquiry directed to the appropriate division for response.
The IDHR plays a crucial role in standing up for the most marginalized members of our society, and we look forward to working with you to build an Illinois where everyone has access to opportunity, human rights and civil rights.
We look forward to serving you.
James L. Bennett, Director
