Understanding fair housing laws is important to any property owner, manager or industry professional that wants to make sure they are in compliance. The Illinois Human Rights Act protects people from discrimination when they are renting, buying, or securing financing for any housing or commercial property in Illinois. Discrimination can happen on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability and the presence of children - amongst other things.
