Requirements for Education Institutions

This page explains the additional requirements for institutions of Higher Education. Note that the requirements on this page also apply to these institutions.

Elementary and Secondary Schools

What you need to do:

Provide Racism-Free Schools training to all employees (faculty, staff, and administrators) once a year.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (Required annually)

What you need to do:

Provide sexual harassment prevention training to all employees (faculty, staff, and administrators) once a year.

Campus postings (Required - Choose one method)

What you need to do:

Make sure all students know about sexual harassment protections and how to report concerns. Choose the method that works best for your institution:

Method 1: Physical posting only
Post notices in common areas where students gather – residence halls, student unions, cafeterias, libraries, and administration buildings. Keep them posted year-round.

You can use any or all of these designs:

Method 2: Online registration
Include the information in your online registration system so students must review and acknowledge it before registering for classes.

Written policy (Required)

What you need to do:

Maintain a written sexual harassment policy that addresses both employee-to-employee and student-facing situations. Include information about Title IX coordinators and reporting procedures.

Note: This model policy is a starting point. Consult with a licensed attorney to ensure it fits your specific institution.

Compliance Checklist: Higher Education

  • All personnel have had sexual harassment training

  • During student registration, we’ve provided information about sexual harassment complete with an electronic signature for students. 

  • We have posted the prerequisite sexual harassment posters in common areas for students to see. 

  • We have downloaded and made available the sexual harassment brochures
